Chair
Abdoulie Touray Mr. Abdoulie Touray is the current chair of the ICRT-WA. Mr. Touray, who holds a Bachelors Degree in Economics from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia and an MBA in Management Finance from Atlanta University, serves in other capacities on several boards in The Gambia. Aside from his domestic exploits he has an impressive pedigree with international institutions such as the Multi-lateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) of the World Bank Group where he served as Alternate Governor for several years. His achievements are best described in a testimonial from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in which his successes are celebrated.
Secretary
Adama Bah Mr. Adama Bah is synonymous with tourism development in The Gambia, a sector in which his contribution continues to be sought by local and international tourism stakeholders . His career spans several decades from in-house hotel staff to a wizened tourism guru of worldwide repute. Mr. Bah has been a consultant with Concern Universal and is now the Programme Manager in The Gambia for the Travel Foundation for which he has overseen various grassroots developmental initiatives - one of which is the much appraised ‘Gambia is Good’ project. He also serves on the boards of development-oriented organisations such as the Association of Small Scale Enterprises in Tourism (ASSET), the Child Protection Alliance, the Institute of Travel and Tourism of The Gambia (ITTOG) etc. Mr. Bah is currently pursuing an MSc degree in Responsible Tourism Management at Leeds Metropolitan University. Geri Mitchell and Maurice Phillips Geri Mitchell and Maurice Phillips are also widely known for their contribution to Responsible Tourism. Geri Mitchell was the Chair of ASSET for five years and continues to play a significant part in the Association’s development. Geri continues to make a major contribution to the success of the Plymouth/Banjul Challenge, a venture that has raised more than £750,000 for ASSET, the Gambia National Olympics Committee and associated organisations since its inception in 2003. Geri and Maurice run two hotels: Safari Garden received a Responsible Tourism Award at the 2008 World Travel Market as ‘Best Small Accommodation Provider’ category and Sandele Eco-Retreat received the Guardian/Observer 2009 Ethical Tourism Award. The success of the ecologically based building technology used at Sandele has led to the establishment of Earthworks Construction Limited – a company that is sharing new skills with Gambian people and benefiting local communities wherever possible. Shiekh Tejan Nyang Sheikh Tejan Nyang is another household name in tourism. His exploits took him as far as Norway where he worked in both public and private tourism outfits. In The Gambia Mr. Nyang has worked in one of the highest tourism offices as Director of Tourism at the Ministry of Tourism and Culture. He also managed various hotels before running his own small scale tourism business. He has contributed immensely to the founding and development of Gambia Tourism Concern and ASSET, two institutions that helped chart the course of sustainable tourism development in The Gambia. Fatou Beyai Raji Fatou Beyai-Raji is was until recently the acting Director General of The Gambia Tourism Authority (GTA). She is Director of Product Development, Investment and Culture at the GTA. Mrs. Beyai-Raji has been associated with, and worked indefatigably for, tourism development in The Gambia for many years and continues to make an invaluable contribution to the work of ICRT-WA. Kaliba Senghore Kaliba Senghore is a human resources development professional of international standing. Being one of The Gambia’s most accomplished citizens, Mr. Senghore is renowned not just in his native country but across Africa and beyond, a reputation which itself has proved an attraction for huge new investment in The Gambia’s tourism industry especially during his stint as the GTA’s Director General. He is now the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism and Culture. Member
Daouda Nyang Daouda Nyang is the Development Manager of ASSET. He has extensive experience of dealing with tourism stakeholders across a wide range of topics. Mr. Nyang who has completed a Masters programme in Responsible Tourism Management in the UK. Mr Nyang has many abilities and his enthusiasm and verve enable him to push forward and make things happen in the industry. | |
