Course : Destination Niche Tourism: Development &    Management
Course leader: Dr Marina Novelli , University of Brighton

Niche Tourism is one of the fastest growing areas within the tourism sector. The concept of 'niche tourism' has emerged in recent years as counter-point to what is commonly referred to as 'mass tourism'. It implies a more sophisticated set of practices that distinguish and differentiate tourists and may be associated with more responsible forms of tourism. This course provides an integrated overview on niche tourism as a whole. A comprehensive theoretical framework is used to assess practical scenarios, policies and strategies with a sustainable development focus. International case studies and workshop organized in The Gambia will enable students to emphasize the links of theory to practice, by attending workshops and local guided visits and by delivering their a group presentation. Students will gather essential tourism experiences by visiting this unique destination and by collaborating with Gambian students.
